Today is a sad day. Today is the day I have come to the conclusion that at 38 I can no longer pull off sequins. Bejewelled (yes I believe that is the correct terminology) footwear and tops - I think there are a few more years to be had but sadly no sequins. Although having said that I do have a brown top for next week which has a few scattered on it and a London, Paris, Moscow (I liked the fact NewYork had been replaced by Mosow - that's just how I roll) grey sweatshirt number which might just pass - actually no the sequins have had their day.

| Inappropriate wear for a 38 year old? |
This is the offending item that has brought about this sad day. I am currently wearing my flower sweatshirt -its very soft and cosy and I do like it. When I proudly came downstairs, having teamed it with the shoe horned size 14 jeans, my hubster took one look laughed and said "have you met my teen wife!" "Too young?" I enquired "no, no..." cue coughing and laughing. The final test was when I asked my step-daughter aged 14 "it is a tad young" followed by "I don't really wear sequins"
What do you reckon?
At 38 you are definitely still young enough for sequins. But maybe only at night? I have never really favoured sequins in the day time. But the sweatshirt looks lovely and quirky - I say where whatever you want.
ReplyDeleteIf you can wear size 14 jeans you can wear sequins.
ReplyDeleteSequins add glamour! They light up your face and give you a bit of sexy sparkle! You are never to old for sequins and tell hubby just because you are a 1950s wife doesn't mean you have to dress like one lol!!
ReplyDeleteCan I borrow the top?? Love it!
Thank you ladies - well it seems that I can wear this top afterall! Mrs Popper P you can borrow the top x
ReplyDeleteTag!
ReplyDeleteFunny. I googled, "are sequins too young?" because my 63-year old mother just bought a sequins-adorned tube top, and your post popped up. I'm 38 and still wear them, though I often wonder if people are snickering behind my back. So I snickered (probably way too loudly) when Mom told me she bought this. I wonder if my own obsession with getting older, worry about wearing the "right" things, has transferred my judgement on her as well, and maybe if we r both happy wearing them, age shouldn't make a difference. Whoo-hoo! Sequins! Or maybe I'm right and we should both retire them as you originally thought. Getting older is tricky, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteIt is very tricky isn't it. I do wear that top but not often and mostly indoors! I have another brown one which I wore on a night out and I see many an old woman wearing them which I think suits them. Maybe there's a period of time its a no and then you're good to go on them post 50 or something? Ultimately I suppose if you like wearing something who cares! x
